May 2016

Some of our volunteers for the Bake Sale.
On May 6, we held our fifth annual Bake Sale. Several families helped out by manning the table and several more baked brownies and cookies. We held the sale at the Walmart on Stadium West Boulevard and raised $390.05.

This money will fund all our activities for the next year--supplies for Art Club, Science Club, and Quest Club; hall and pavilion rentals for various events--and will offset expenses for our out-of-town field trip in February.

Thanks to all who helped out!

During our tour inside the Missouri State Penitentiary.
On May 16, 27 of our members took a field trip to the Missouri State Penitentiary. During this student tour, we heard about some famous characters who were housed within its walls. We listened to stories about inmate escapes and learned about the different devices and techniques that were and are used to keep inmates inside. Some of us decided we want to go back for one of the longer tours!

On the penitentiary grounds.
After the tour was a visit to the Missouri State Penitentiary Museum where we got to see all sorts of things made by the inmates--from beautiful furniture to handmade weapons--as well as learn some more history about the place.

Working with positive and negative shapes.
On May 19, we had our monthly Art Club meeting. It was all about shape. We did a project where we learned about positive and negative shapes, then we went on a shape scavenger hunt. Our last project of the day was to glue a yellow circle onto a piece of paper and incorporate it into a drawing. We had cats, a bacon and egg breakfast, Pacman, a midway at a carnival, and several others.

Completed Art Club projects.
