Six of our families--six adults, 12 children--sorted clothes, hung them, and organized them on shelves. When it was time to hang the sorted clothes, several of the children pretended they were train engines running from where the clothes were being put on hangers to where they were being hung up. Everyone seemed to enjoy the project and The Giving Tree was most appreciative.
The Giving Tree takes unwanted, donated clothing and household items and passes them on to people who need them. It operates like Goodwill or Salvation Army, but all items are free. It was created because its founders understand that when someone is on a tight budget, having to buy basic items such as shoes and clothes is a burden and can add up fast, even when buying from Goodwill or Salvation Army for $4 to $5 an item. It is their hope that together we can relieve some of the financial burdens people are facing by providing some basic needed items for free.
We plan to do a community service project every quarter. If you have an idea for a project, please comment here. Thanks!
